The Nature Conservancy’s Brightstorm program empowers public and private sector innovators to accelerate the design and implementation of technology-driven programs for surface water stewardship, enhancing water quality and climate-related flood resilience across watersheds impacted by human development.

We customize project outcomes to suit the needs of those with whom we collaborate as well as the communities in which they’re located.

We serve as facilitators, connecting governments with climate resiliency and watershed improvement needs to large landowners and corporate stewardship programs that seek sustainability and environmental solutions as well as access to public markets.

Our focus on water revolves around scaling emerging technologies for hydrologic restoration in urban watersheds. We analyze and integrate technology that helps improve water quality, restore natural flows, and enhance flood-related climate resiliency.

  • Facilitate public-private partnerships to overcome procurement and permitting barriers so that new and emerging technologies can be more easily adopted to achieve impact at scale.
  • Find opportunities for public and private sector partners to leverage existing public funding for infrastructure retrofits.
  • Demonstrate how emerging technologies combined with nature-based solutions can transform static infrastructure into dynamic, interconnected systems that help restore natural hydrologic conditions.

We provide expertise in program design, feasibility and efficacy—along with planning and implementation—that results in measurable and replicable improvements for water quality, flows and flood-related climate resiliency, particularly in vulnerable and underserved communities.
